Donatello & Master Splinter

Last year Hakeem worked out with Kobe Bryant, and Kobe immediately put his new weapons to use. Kobe spent the majority of last season posting up defenders. When Andrew Bynum returned from injury Kobe went back to facing up defenders, but would take advantage of smaller guards in the post from time-to-time.

This year Dwight Howard went in search of “the Dream”. Dwight spent three days in Houston working out with Hakeem whom he called “Master Splinter”. Not sure if Hakeem has any idea who Master Splinter is, but he smiled at the reference.

In the over eight minute video, we see Hakeem teaching Dwight how to make the correct moves in the post and when away from the basket.

With only three days to of training Dwight appeared focused and attentive. If Howard puts to use anything he learned from Hakeem it could lead to big problems for teams in the East…especially Boston.

Also in the video, you can’t help but wonder if Hakeem could still play in the NBA. He appears faster and more agile then many big men in the league now. I’m talking to you Shaq, Dampier, Yao.

Last year the Rockets started 6′,6″ Chuck Hayes at center. Maybe it’s time to give Hakeem a call.
