The New Jersry Nets have sent a request to the league to change the team’s name. Changing a team’s nickname, uniform or city name is a long process requiring that the owner gives the NBA notice 25 months in advance. The change, if it happens, would coincide with the team’s future move to Brooklyn.

The Truth Sports would like to officially begin the naming of the new Brooklyn team.

Brooklyn Reds, Brooklyn Zoo(my fav), Brooklyn Spies, Brooklyn Masons, The Rambling Elite, Brooklyn Bakers, Brooklyn Bentleys, Brooklyn Bricklayers, Brooklyn Paybach, Brooklyn Giants, Brooklyn Boul’e, Brooklyn Baby-Daddies, Brooklyns Finest, Brooklyn Nyets, Brooklyn Bets, Brooklyn Deckers, Brooklyn Dodgers, Brooklyn Bombers, Brooklyn Bodegas, Brooklyn Bailout, Brooklyn Prospects

Rockets and Nets to meet in China

Posted 04 Aug 2010 — by Phillip Pyle
Category Houston Rockets, NBA, New Jersey Nets

The Houston Rockets will play two pre-season games against the New Jersey Nets in Beijing and Guangzhou.

Yao Ming will of course headline the NBA’s fifth set of pre-season games in China as he and the Rockets will play New Jersey on October 13 in Beijing and on October 16 in Guangzhou.

What are the chances the NBA could make it where the Rockets stay in Beijing and the Nets stay in Guangzhou. Then each NBA team would travel to China to play them. It would help Yao recover from injury being home, and the Nets head coach Avery Johnson is much more popular in China.

In 2004, the NBA became the first American professional sports league to play games in China, with two games between the Rockets and the Sacramento Kings in Shanghai and Beijing.

For the Love of LeBron James.

With the start of the NBA’s free-agent period just three days away, details are starting to emerge about the meetings LeBron James will hold with potential suitors Thursday, when all parties can begin talking.

According to sources and media reports, the meetings with James will take place in northeast Ohio near — but not at — his suburban Akron home. The Bulls, New York Knicks, Miami Heat, New Jersey Nets and Los Angeles Clippers are expected to make pitches to James. There also was talk Sunday that the Dallas Mavericks, who are over the salary cap and only could acquire James through a sign-and-trade, want to make a presentation as well.

The Knicks have the most cap space of all the teams. They can get $34.15 million under the projected cap of $56.1 million. Next up are the Bulls, who can get roughly $29.1 million under the salary cap, followed by the Heat ($27.6 million) and the Nets ($27 million).

Just think if LeBron was to have cameras present, he could turn the entire process into a critically acclaimed reality show. Or LeBron could have each team compete in challenges (VH1 style) and prove which one really is up to the task of aiding James to a championship. Each team that proved its worth, would stepped down and receive a game ball, meaning they were still in the running towards~proving their love to LeBron. Teams that failed would be told by LeBron “You have fouled out, please return to the locker room and collect your things”. ” I have no love for you”.

This show would squash the entire Summer lineup on ABC by the way!

2010 NBA Draft Recap

The Madison Square Garden Theater was ready for draft night as early as 4 am, when fans begin to line up to assure they had a seat when the $15 tickets went on sale at 11 am. Fans from across the country were in attendance to cheer for their respective teams, and boo Commissioner David Stern every time he walked out to the podium. The Chicago Bulls stole some of the early shine by proposing the trade of Kirk Hinrich to the Wizards. Not to be outdone by the Bulls, the Portland Trail Blazers owner Paul Allen decided to part ways with GM Kevin Pritchard on draft night, but let him still make draft decisions….?  The 2010 NBA Draft went pretty much as expected early, with the exception of the Utah Jazz stealing Gordon Hayward from the Pacers. The University of Kentucky set a record with 5 first round selections.

Here is a break-down of pick #1-#15:

First pick, Washington Wizards: John Wall, 6-4, 195, Kentucky, point guard.: The lock No. 1 pick, Wall has been called the most electrifying player in this year’s draft. A product of the John Calipari one-and-done mold, Wall averaged 16 points, six boards and four dimes. Wall brings the Wizards superior speed, athleticism, and late-game shot making, plus a relief from the circus of last year.

Second pick, Philadelphia 76ers: Evan Turner, 6-7, 205, Ohio State, guard. There was nothing Turner didn’t do for Ohio State, and he’s the most dynamic player in the draft. He averaged 20 points, 9 boards, and 6 dimes last season. With a good game around the basket and a solid midrange shot, Turner only needs to work on his outside shooting and ball handling. He shot 36% from three-point range and turned the ball over 4.4 times per game. Doug Collins new head coach of the 76ers gets another chance to coach a future superstar as he did in Chicago with MJ.

New Jersey Nets: A Brown Bag Lunch!

Posted 29 Mar 2010 — by Phillip Pyle
Category NBA, New Jersey Nets

The chief executive of the New Jersey Nets will have lunch with a fan who recently wore a brown bag over his head to protest the team’s woeful season. Nets CEO Brett Yormark and Chris Lisi of Middletown will sit down for lunch Tuesday at the Nets’ headquarters.

Lunch, of course, will be brown-bag style. Does this mean they will talk to each other while wearing brown bags on their head? I know thats probably too much to ask for, but would be awesome.

Yormark had a brief heated exchange with Lisi a week ago after seeing him with the brown bag on his head during a game. Yormark defended his actions the next day, saying he was standing up for his team, which is 9-64 and needs one win in its last nine games to avoid matching the NBA record for fewest wins.

I love the Nets organization for doing this. Here’s hoping  Chris Lisi prepares a PowerPoint presentation. He should at least have flash cards.

The meeting will be streamed live at www.njnets.com. Yormark and Lisi will be joined by Nets radio broadcasters Chris Carrino and Tim Capstraw.

Someone should let the new owner Mikhail Prokhorov know that in the United States, if you don’t know how much money you have the IRS will help you count it. I’m sure the background check on Prokhorov was as tall as David Stern. Maybe one day lucky fans will get to go swimming in Prokhorov’s money bin.

Rockets Beat Nets/Knicks beat Mavs!

Saturdays matchup between the Rockets-Nets, and Mavericks-Knicks, was sort of New York against Texas. Nets are a couple years from playing in Brooklyn but New Jersey is about the same distance Houston is to Dallas. The Rockets had a three day rest before hosting the 7 and 58 New Jersey Nets. Luis Scola had tweeted earlier in the week that he was was ready for this game. Scola finished with a career-high 44 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and the Houston Rockets beat the Nets 116-108 to keep their fading playoff hopes alive. “Luis was awesome,” Battier said. “They’re erecting statues of him in Buenos Aires as we speak.” Scola hit 20 of 25 shots, many of them open layups, and reached the highest point total by a Rockets player since Tracy McGrady scored 47 against Utah in November 2007. The Rockets lead the NBA in offensive fouls drawn with 197, and since acquiring Kevin Martin have moved from 17th in the league in free throw shooting % to 13th. Aaron Brooks tied a Rockets franchise record by hitting a 3 for the 37th consecutive game. Brooks’ streak of games with a 3-pointer is the longest active one in the NBA.

Tony Douglas cant believe it either! NBAE via Getty Images

The Mavericks embarrassed the Knicks a couple weeks ago. The Mavs beat the Knicks by 50 points and put the city of New York to shame. The Knicks rolled into Dallas seeking revenge, and the Mavs slow offense early at home contributed to the end of their 13 game winning streak. The Knicks celebrated a rare highlight in an otherwise forgettable season, shooting 56 percent from the floor (50 for 89) and 16 of 30 from 3-point range. Dallas hadn’t been beaten by the Knicks at home since Dec. 16, 1999. “Revenge is sweet sometimes. That’s a really good team over there but we caught them at the right time. They were ripe for the picking,” said New York reserve Al Harrington, who had 20 points. “When you’re rolling along and the Knicks are coming in, you figure you can score 150 points on ‘em in your sleep. But that Knick team didn’t show up today. We caught ‘em by surprise.”

At Your Request Sire

A number of trades were executed prior to the NBA trading deadline. Antawn Jamison joined the Cavs. Caron Butler added scoring and toughness to the Mavs roster in a trade that saw the much-maligned Josh Howard moved to the woeful Wizards. Perhaps the biggest trade involved a three-team deal between the Kings, Rockets, and Knicks that saw Kevin Martin move to the Rockets, Carl Landry and Larry Hughes go to the Kings, and Tracy McGrady and his valuable expiring contract head to the Knicks. There were other players and picks involved in all of the deals I just mentioned.

But, there was an underlying theme for the majority of these mid-season moves: GET LEBRON JAMES! It’s no secret that King James is the most coveted free agent in the upcoming offseason, probably in NBA history.

General Managers are maneuvering in order to have enough paper to give the reigning league MVP a max contract. Some of the teams who have expressed interest include the Knicks, Nets, Mavs, and his current team, the Cavs. So, if I was LeBron, I would take advantage of being the hot commodity and make some requests of my salivating suitors. Here are some suggested requests (To make this fun, the requests are as ridiculous as possible and are pretty much things I would like to see).

Dallas

  • A box suite at Cowboys Stadium
  • All African-American players on the Mavs must wear a Rolando “Blackman” jersey
  • Bring back Roy Tarpley as an assistant coach
  • Have the guy that played J.R. Ewing from the show “Dallas” hand LeBron his powder before the King does the pre-game “Powder Shower” at home games

New Jersey

  • Move the Nets to Brooklyn earlier and name the court “King James Court”
  • Bring back Lucious Harris as SG (I just like his name).
  • Have a throne installed in front of James’ locker
  • Rename the Nets the “Bucktowners” when the team moves to Brooklyn and have Brooklyn emcees such as Mos Def and Lil’ Fame from MOP perform the National Anthem

New York

  • A fly crib in each of the five boroughs
  • Every player must sport a 90’s era Patrick Ewing high-top fade and an orange pair of Ewings
  • A box suite at Yankees Stadium
  • Bring back Isiah Thomas and name him team “Ethics Manager”

Cleveland

  • Have Bone Thugs N’ Harmony serve as James’ escorting theme music group to every home game
  • Allow LeBron to attend practice via videoconference at his in-home basketball gym
  • Retire LeBron’s #23 jersey now
  • Hire Wolfgang Puck to be Lebron’s traveling chef on road games

So LeBron, these are my suggested requests for you. Do I expect you to make them, not a chance. But, it doesn’t hurt to imagine!

The Truth Sports: NBA 2010 All-Star Game Guide!

Everything is bigger in Texas, the food, the people, and the stadiums. This years NBA All-Star game is taking place in the Dallas Cowboys Stadium. NBA Commissioner David Stern said because of the collaboration between Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, “The result is now we’re going to wind up having the largest crowd attend a game in the history of the world.”

Both Jones and Cuban have said they hoped the NBA would try to surpass 100,000 fans. The building record is 105,121, set during the New York Giants’ 33-31 victory over the Cowboys in the home opener. During a recent interview with The News’ Eddie Sefko,  Stern remarked that the All-Star Game will “set and retire” basketball’s attendance record.

The Truth Sports: NBA 11-Game Wednesday Re-Cap

AP Photo/Pat Sullivan

Nuggets 97 Rockets 92: The Nuggets won for the second straight time without Carmelo Anthony, the NBA’s second-leading scorer, who sat out with a sprained left ankle. The Rockets lost for the eighth time in 12 games, despite yet another dominating start. Chauncey Billups and J.R. Smith were enough to beat the sputtering Rockets who have lost a bit of the intensity they had early in the season. Not to point the finger but Trevor Ariza is shooting 13-45 over the three game skid.

Hawks 90 Spurs 105: An old dog never loses its tricks and the Spurs used everyone of those tricks on display in a trouncing of Atlanta. Tim Duncan grabbed a career-high 27 rebounds and scored 21 points, and the San Antonio Spurs ended their three-game slide with a 105-90 win over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night. It was the first 20-20 game since 2005 for Duncan, who bested his previous career rebounding high of 25, set against Miami in 2003. Jamal Crawford earned his 23rd career 4-point play. Now just one behind Reggie Miller’s NBA record. Whwn the Hawks win and lose BIG!

Lakers 118 Pacers 96: Bynum scored 22 points in the first half. Kobe Bryant took over in the second half and finished with a game-high 29 points to go with nine rebounds and seven assists. Bynum finished with 27 points and 12 rebounds. Indiana decided to go small and it failed. Times have been rough in Indiana, for basketball at least. The Indianapolis Colts are playing in the Super Bowl next Sunday! Los Angeles doesn’t even have a football team, so…small victories.

AP Photo/Sue Ogrocki

Bulls 96 Thunder 86: Derrick Rose scored 26 points, Noah added 13 points and 11 rebounds and the Bulls held the Oklahoma City without a field goal for the first eight minutes of the fourth quarter on their way to a 96-86 victory on Wednesday night. The Truth Sports knew the Del Negro ship would stay afloat. It was Chicago’s fourth straight win — all on the road — after starting the season 4-15 away from the United Center. The Bulls — fresh off wins at Phoenix, Houston and San Antonio — improved to 22-22, returning to .500 for the first time since they were 6-6 on Nov. 21. A disappointing 3 game losing streak that gets tested Friday against the Nuggets….good luck

Heat 103 Raptors 111: Chris Bosh had 24 points and a season-high 18 rebounds,Andrea Bargnani scored 27 points and Raptors played another solid game after beating the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday.

Ron Turenne/NBAE via Getty Images

“We put (the Lakers game) behind us,” Bosh said. “One thing about a big win, you don’t want to beat a good team and then come back and have a poor performance. You always want to keep the momentum going and I think we’re building some good resistance at home.” Dwyane Wade had 35 points and 10 assists and former Raptors center Jermaine O’Neal scored 22 for Miami, which lost Michael Beasley to a right knee injury. The injury may keep him out of Heats next game against Detroit. Bosh is the onlyRaptors player to start all 46 games this season, and even more appealing to the Heat, and the Rockets, and the…….

Timberwolves 95 Cavaliers 109: Cavs are 9-0 at home against Western Conference teams, if you consider the Timberwolves a team. Just kidding, but this one was a no-brainer. LeBron is dancing in the highlights, and thats never a good sign.

Grizzlies 99 Pistons 93:  The Pistons 11-19 (57.9%) free-throw shooting was the only negative output of the game, unfortunately the Grizzlies shot 26-28 (92.9%) from the stripe. The Grizzlies have passed all the wins they had all last season(24). Ben Gordon (groin) missed his 19th game of the season, and Will Bynum (ankle) also sat out for Detroit.

76ers 88 Bucks 91: This game was not watched, yet it was played. Brandon Jennings scored 18 points, hitting a 12-footer with 22 seconds left, and the Bucks held on for a 91-88 win on Wednesday night after the Sixers missed three shots to tie in the final 11 seconds. Iverson finished with six points, all in the first half.

Jazz 106 Trailblazers 95: Here are some mismatch numbers. The Jazz had 19 turnovers the Blazers had 9. Utah shot 60.3 percent from the field, hitting 38 of 63 shots. Portland shot 36.3 percent (33 of 91). Utah led by as many as 26 points during the first half. The Jazz won for the eighth time in nine games and took over second place in the Northwest Division. Carlos Boozer, who scored 14 points, left the game early in the third quarter with a right calf strain and did not return. Can you hear the money slipping through Boozers fingers. It sounds like when Sonic loses his rings.

Hornets 123 Warriors 110: Did you know Stephen Curry is 5th in steals per game, crazy right? Chris Paul scored 38 points to lead five New Orleans starters in double figures. Paul shot 14 for 19 from the field, made all nine of his free-throw tries, dished out nine assists and grabbed six rebounds. Paul is a lock for All-Star reserve.  Monta Ellis returned for Golden State after missing the past two games with a sprained right ankle and had 19 points, nine assists and six rebounds. He had been averaging 30.7 points over his previous 16 outings. Hope this doesn’t hurt Monta’s chances of making it to the All-Star Game as a reserve. The roster is to be announced tomorrow.

AND THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT!!!

NETS WIN!!! NOW THE STRIVE FOR 5!
