The Big 3 Have Created a Monster & Tues. NBA Highlights

Heartbreak Hotel for Lebron in Memphis. The Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Cavaliers 111-109, ending the Cavs 4-game win streak. Lebron had 43 points, and 13 rebounds….N.H.F.which means “not his fault” Zach Randolph finished with 32 points and 14 rebounds for the Grizzlies. (thetruthsports does not refer to LeBron as the “King” because you must have “rings” to be a King)

  • No one on earth is as angry as Joakim Noah is right now. Bulls lost 103- 102 to the (2-12) New Jersey Nets. It was the first road victory for the fresh off a losing streak Nets. “When we make a run like that at home, we got to think mentally we have the advantage. We could never pull it together,” said Chicago’s Joakim Noah, who suggested his team’s effort wasn’t good enough over the entire game. Maybe the team should consider dancing while on the sidelines. Just a thought!

  • Rajon Rondo is the first Boston Celtics player since Larry Bird in 1991 to get 10 points, 10 assists, 9 rebounds, and 5 steals in a game.

The Big Three, Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen are all gulity of the creature they have created. What sort of player would Rajon Rondo have become without the guidance, exposure, and experience he has consumed due to the players on the court with him. No other player his age in the NBA is earning the same level of education.

In Rondo’s first year he averaged 6.4 pts, 3.8 ast, 3.7 reb.

He is now averaging 11.1 pts, 9.0 ast, 3.9 rebs, and 2.6 steals which leads the league.

Just felt like sharing this, but Rondo was the 21st pick in the 2006 NBA Draft,*(Rockets traded Rudy Gay for Shane Battier, and the Bulls have neither of their picks)

Man’s Monday

It’s MAN’S MONDAY!!!

There are four games on the NBA schedule tonight, and starting off is the Denver Nuggets at Philadelphia 76ers. The 76ers are on a 9 game losing streak, and “The Answer” is back in the starting lineup as if we all are experiencing some “twilight zone” experience. The 76ers also play the next 5 at home, which coupled with numerous ticket packages should get the Sixers out of the attendance basement. To the benefit of all NBA fans the game is on NBATV.

In the second game, the Portland Trailblazers travel to New York without Greg Oden for the first time this season. Sad as  the injury to Oden is, it now allows the Blazers to fly in and out of the lane without Oden’s post presence. The Blazers next 4 are on the road, and they should benefit from the adversity on the road re-learning how to play without Oden. They did well last season without him, and Andre Miller wasn’t there.

Golden St. and Oklahoma City, face off for the first time of the year, in the battle of “Future Playoff Teams” The Warriors have played solid following the trade of Stephen Jackson. This game will feature less defense then the Pittsburgh Steelers without Troy Polamalu. Frist team to 100 wins this one. *SideNote=The Ravens-Packers Monday Night Football games starts 30 minutes into this one, so if you are anti-offense flipping over to MNF should fulfill you with the defense you were looking for.

The last night pits to old foes the San Antonio Spurs and the Utah Jazz. Carlos Boozer has been playing as if his “eyebrows” are less heavy. The Spurs have lost the last two, and winning in Utah is about as difficult as solving a rubik’s cube blindfolded.

They’re Back!

Kobe and Lebron start this season all over again, this time debating the winner of a fight between a black mamba and a lion. This is the first feature from Nike’s Most Valuable (MV) Puppets, and we are hoping they will continue their friendly bickering til the end of the season. I still think the Lebron puppet is “spot on” but Kobe’s puppet is creepy.

Why Kobe is the best!?

Last night Kobe and The Los Angeles Lakers scrapped out a win against Dwayne Wade and the Heat. Both teams put a considerable load on Kobe and Wade, and both were up to the challenge. The Lakers inbounded the ball in down four with under 20 seconds left and Derek Fisher drained a three, cutting the Heat lead to 1. Wade was fouled and missed 1 of 2, making it a 2 point game with 3.2 left in the game. What happened next was simply amazing. Many folks, even Kobe himself attributed the shot to “luck”. Kobe got the inbounds pass from Artest, dribbled to the top of the key with Wade locked to his hip. Kobe jumped off the wrong foot, fading left for three, off the glass, game-winner. A “Horse” shot, something that could take the average man a hundred tries to make. The shot was reminiscent of LeBron’s game-winner in the Eastern Conf. Finals. A great game from Kobe filled with at least 6 shots that were at the highest degree of difficulty.

Mafia Made Me Do It!

Tim-Donaghy & buddies

Disgraced ex-NBA referee Tim Donaghy claims he won 75% of the bets he placed on basketball games, but the “euphoria” of his picks turned to terror when the mob moved in on his action.

Breaking his silence for the first time, Donaghy tells CBS’ “60 Minutes” that the Gambino crime family threatened his wife and kids to get him to be its gambling guru. ”They basically told me that I needed to give them the picks and if I didn’t, that it’s a possibility that somebody would go down and visit my wife and kids in Florida,” Donaghy said in the interview set to air Sunday. He said the mafia made millions on his scheme, but paid him only $2,000 for each correct pick. It was unclear how much he raked in before the mob got involved. Donaghy, who was booted from the NBA and imprisoned for 11 months for his wayward wagering, said his dirty betting scheme was based on the inside-knowledge he gleaned from his hardcourt colleagues. ”I knew there were certain relationships that existed between referees and players, referees and coaches and referees and owners that influence the point spreads in games,” said Donaghy, adding that he bet on about 100 games over four years.

He explained that he often bet against teams that had players or coaches hated by the crew refereeing a game. Donaghy claims hoops star Allen Iverson was disliked by many of his whistle-blowing comrades when he played for the Philadelphia 76ers. Donaghy said that when Iverson, who returned to the 76ers yesterday, once threatened a referee, other refs vowed to seek revenge. ”I do believe Allen Iverson knew this … all the players know this … certain referees treat them better than others,” Donaghy said. He said his knowledge of biases and schedules of individual referees were tips that helped him achieve a 75% winning average on his wagers. ”When you talk about gambling and the euphoria that comes with it, making winning picks is what excites you,” said Donaghy, insisting that his on-court calls were honest.

I find Donaghy’s claims against the Mafia to be quite bold. What type of security is he rolling with to be able to “drop the dime” on his former gambling partners. The Mafia doesn’t care that you are promoting your new book, or that you spent 11 months in prison. It would be in Donaghys best intrest to keep “Mafia” out of his statements. I see witness protection in Donaghy’s future.

The NBA is far from perfect, but the thought of any master corruption by the league seems far-fecthed and only in the minds of conspiracy theorists. The NBA is run by the general mangers, owners, and the players themselves. The Lakers and Celtics are the best teams, and have the best players.

Referees are to be “shadows” during each game, simply keeping the game in order, and avoiding the limelight.

Nets Losing Streak Ends Sunday!

The New Jersey Nets last win was April 13th. Seven months later and the Nets are still looking for that “W”(they did win one game in the preseason). On Wednesday night the Nets set the record for most loses to start the season. The loss came way of the Dallas Mavericks who outscored the Nets 49-22 in the second quarter.  Vandeweghe, the Nets’ general manager, replaced the fired Lawrence Frank and will coach the team the rest of the season — but not quite yet. Though his hiring was announced Tuesday, Vandeweghe won’t coach his first game until Friday, leaving Tom Barrise in charge one more time. Nice of Kiki to let Barrise name grace the record books and not his.

It was two years ago when the Nets traded Jason Kidd to the Mavericks for Devin Harris, ending the trio of Jason Kidd, Vince Carter, and Richard Jefferson that had led the Nets to back-to-back NBA Finals.

“It doesn’t pain me, it’s unfortunate,” said Dallas’ Jason Kidd, who led the Nets to two NBA Finals appearances earlier this decade before the rebuilding (or demolition, some would say) of the roster began with the trade that sent him to Dallas. “I can always say there was whispers of this coming, you could see it coming. It’s unfortunate, they’re going through some changes on that side and they have to stay with it and stay positive, and things will turn eventually.”

There is a bright side to this losing streak. After Fridays matchup against the Charlotte Bobcats, which will probably end in a lost, the Nets play in New York against the Knicks. What a fitting end to this horrible streak, with a defeat of the Knicks. Both teams have Saturday off, and Madison Square Garden is a place where history is made, espicially with the Knicks playing less defense then the Washington Generals.

The NBA’s all-time worst season record is 9-73 held by the 72-73 Philadelphia 76ers. The Nets wont break this record, and will finally get a win come Sunday. They are a young team, and with youth eventually comes maturity, and this horrible experience is aging the Nets faster then expected.

Hennessy+Artest+Kanye+Iverson=Happy Holidays

I used to drink Hennessy … at halftime,” Artest says in the interview, which hits newsstands this week. “I [kept it] in my locker. I’d just walk to the liquor store and get it.-Sporting News

Ron Artest confesses to drinking liquor at halftime of Bulls games, really Ron, really. In the wild-wild world of @thugraider37 (his twitter name) the notion that he drank Hennessy  during half-time seems fitting based on his behavior during his time in the NBA.

What I find intresting is the last time we witnessed a crazy haired celebrity drinking Hennessy,kanye_vmas_drinking1he ran onto the stage at the VMA’s stealing a 19 year-olds moment. Ron knows all about shocking the audience, and this is just another act in the wild-wild world of Ron Artest and his quest for celebrity.

In related news the “The Anwser” has returned to Philadelphia.

Iverson signed a free-agent contract with Philadelphia on Wednesday, three years after their acrimonious split led to his trade and seemingly ended any chance of his return. Iverson’s brief retirement is over and he’s expected to make his debut Monday at home against Denver.

The Sixers needed a replacement once they lost starting point guard Lou Williams, who’s expected to miss eight weeks after jaw surgery. Williams, who averaged 17.4 points and 5.1 assists, broke his jaw in a loss to Washington on Nov. 24.  Iverson, his agent and business manager met with team president Ed Stefanskicoach Eddie Jordan and two other members of the organization Monday to talk about returning.9696AllenIversonRookieDraftPick1

“Without really seeing him on the floor, I would like to compare him to Brett Favre, a guy who people think is too old to play and he’s almost having an MVP year,” Jordan said. “That’s off the top of my head. When I woke up this morning, I said, ‘Maybe he can be that.’ It’s not a big maybe. I think he can be that.”

Iverson has a career average of 27 points in 889 games over 14 seasons, and is tied for the fifth-highest scoring average in NBA history. He ranks third among active players. He will get a chance to go up against old teams playing Denver and Detroit on back-to-back nights December 7th and 9th. The 76ers will travel to Denver January 3rd, and Detroit on January 9th.

Ed Stefanski referred to Iverson as a “rock star” and his return to Philly feels like the right move. We will try and imagine that he never left at all.
